  • All of this comes full circle for me. Many of the screenwriters I know that come from a business/psychology background do extremely well in the entertainment industry. In addition, a lot of these principles go along with stragetic interview skills and business acumen — it’s called show business for a practical reason. The greenlighters want to know this will be only not a superb investment with them but also a fruitful collaborative relationship. Read the room. Practical business lesson. Love the opening conversation piece in establishing the relevnance of your screenplay at this present time. From idea to a cultural need in society rings supreme. Read the room. Read the faces. Read the emotions. Read the body language. This is a delectable dish of understanding the intricacies of pitching at the ultimate level. Sagacious, pragmatic and applicable in every single way. And be personable.

  • This really hit the nail on the head for me, David: “You stop abandoning generalized “how-to” advice for these advanced psychological strategies, you stop performing your pitch and start controlling the perception of the room.” I think this is a mini-master class on how to pitch outside the box. It requires several readings, so I am saving this to my repertoire of articles. Yes, please, continue to post more articles like these. I find them compelling, savvy, and practical.

  • Whew. If this article was a little smaller, I’d wear it as a tattoo. Loved it. I need to memorize each technique. I was recently in the pitching arena. Wish I knew this before hand. This made my appetite stronger for more pitch opportunities. Thanks David. Yes, if you have more about this let er rip.

  • There were so many great nuggests in the article and I learn a lot. Will be re-listening to this as a fine tune my pitch. Define the cultural reference and express personal connection to the story = irrefutable proof. Cognitive Influence and applied Psychology and control perception. I must say that this article gave so much information that I’ve neve heard about when pitching– more psychological.
I enjoyed listening to the articles as well as reading along. Great feature and great content!

    • Let me try this again after a quick spell check at 4:59 a.m. There were so many great nuggets in this article, and I truly learned a lot. I’ll definitely be re-listening as I fine-tune my pitch.
I really liked how it broke down the importance of defining cultural references and expressing a personal connection to the story… Key points likfe needing to “define the cultural reference and express personal connection to the your story = having irrefutable proof. And how psychology and perception shape great pitching. The info is priceless! The insights on cognitive influence and applied psychology were eye-opening; I’ve never heard pitching explained from such a psychological perspective before.
The tone was spot-on, and it was easy to follow along. I enjoyed both reading and listening… this is such a great feature that has been added. The only hiccup was that the audio stopped about two and a half paragraphs before the end, but the content overall was excellent. Everyone should take the time to listen, take notes, and apply what’s shared here.
You’ve got to love all the valuable information we get here in OBS. I’m genuinely grateful.
