I really enjoyed this piece, David. I love the idea of pre-writing, which I do, and workshopping tough character questions with peers. I also appreciate the examples you give from movies that create great complex characters. I think those movies deserve additional viewings – especially Captain America, which I’ve only seen once. I would also include Ennis Delmar from “Brokeback Mountain” on the list, which was adapted from a short story. Thanks so much for providing us with these tools.
This article is very “thought provoking”, “powerful” and “well written”. A true guide that will take any script to the next level.
