Awesome! I did the YOU TUBE journey years ago. But after reading this article, I think it is time to be open to it again along with several other sagacious tips/insights in this article.
It is so wild that streaming has overall made things more complicated when it comes to pitching toward a demographic audience but at the same time it has provided so much more opportunities for independent writers looking for platform to showcase their work.
I loved how you mentioned Nielsen ratings, I remember as a child how important it was, there was even an episode on Family Guy where the Griffin family became the new Nielsen family and became drunk with power wrecking havoc and destroying the television series that were on their Rhode Island network.
The tips on using content as an example to help one’s pitch is great. It’s true that the writer/creator pitching their show needs to understand what is already successful on the platform they want to work with.
It’s really informative mentioning as well as the important and broad range multiplatform television services bring like with “Abbot Elementary” on ABC and Hulu. That show is extremely successful.
That is such a good idea, stage or podcast version of a script. I never thought of that
Thank you are well for the insight on Byron Allen, it’s interesting that he produced/distributed shows but also sold advertisements.
Thank you as well for the insight on YouTube. I had been contemplating putting my cartoon series on there. I originally had it on instagram for a little while and it received a lot of views and likes in comparison to how many followers I had.
Kevin Hart is such a good example, I remember seeing Soul Plane and didn’t hear about him for a little while then slowing but surely he set multiple foundations (tv shows and films) now everyone knows about him. He recently even made a cartoon series about his life which is based on the stand-up set that ultimately made him famous.
Thanks for this article!
I love the suggestion of collaborating with OBS to show or have actors read our stories via a YT channel. This could be a great resource for OBS screenwriters to shine. You got my vote. Thanks for keeping our fingers on the pulse of this ever-changing industry, David. Onward and upward.
I love this post! I think utilizing these methods YouTube content creators do would be very well with proof of concept for a show. Issa did it!
