  • Thanks, David. I’ve been reading the “Three Pillars,” and it’s very instructive. It’s a good reminder of what I need to be doing in my scripts. The setting is so important. If you think about any Stephen King movie – the setting dictates everything. You know what kind of world you’re in.

  • YES YES AND YES “Something happens when you read a script that knows exactly what world it lives in. You stop evaluating. You stop noticing scene numbers and slug lines and whether the writer remembered to capitalize a sound effect. You lean forward. You start living inside the thing. That’s not a trick of structure or a function of high concept. It’s something older and more fundamental — a quality of voice and specificity that announces, before the reader has finished the first page, that the writer is not performing craft. The writer is channeling a world they know cold.” Oh this is is the one. I work hard to get here everyday. LOVE THIS!!! Setting, Language and Subtext. Mastering these three. YES. Not just scenery. YES. Ooooo, this article is speaking to me on a profound level. This article is teaching to the core life of screenwriting. This lesson is tattoed on my brain, heart and gut. WOW!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! My brain is on overflow with this treasure trove of knoweldge and inspiration.”Cultural authority. The time is now. Own it.”
