  • Another great article with gems peppered throughout. I’ve been listening to horror podcasts since 2020, and there is a huge potential for black screenwriters in this space, too. I would also love to see us create more anthology horror films such as “Tales from the Hood.” From short stories to short films, features and beyond, there are a myriad of opportunities for us as black screenwriters. Thanks so much for this guide, David!

  • Yep. Say it with your chest. If anyone knows horror, it’s Black Americans. Let us tell our stories. With access now, we’ll dominate that bad boy like we did from jazz, to hip hop to basketball and the Summer Olympics. Horror is our middle name, but our last name… is triumph.

  • Great read. May I also challenge other black screenwriters to sorta get away with the “white man is the boogeyman” trope? After “Get Out”, “Them”, “Lovecraft” and most recently, “Sinners”, I think it’s fair to sorta think of other monsters that plague our community. It’s more than white supremacy. Sometimes the monsters are hidden or perceived as good. I’ll leave it at that.

  • Another informative article. Thank you for the guide.

This line, “how a WhatsApp chat and a family prayer circle can both be portals to the uncanny.” resonated with me, because I have a story where a family prayer circle could come in handy, so thank you for that too!

  • So many silver nuggets of inspiration here. So I am now downloading this excellent market guide for daily reference. This article was chockful of pertinent and helpful information. But this one stood out to me. “But historically, every time horror has expanded, Black artists have used that opening to smuggle in our own truths, our own monsters, our own visions of what it means to survive. 2026 is one of those openings. The question is not whether there is room for you in this horror boom. The question is how deliberately you plan to claim that space.”
