This article was very informative, especially since I live here as a writer. Every movie example cited in the article, I’ve seen at least 5 times, if not more. It is definitely a brand; you involuntarily smile at the exact moment each script hits the beat, as it was designed to be. I’m currently working to finalize two Christmas scripts. It’s Christmas in July right now!
Thanks, David. I religiously watch the holiday movies on Netflix starting in October, which, for me, is the kickoff of the holiday season. I count Halloween as a holiday! LOL. Thanks for the fabulous breakdown and guide.
This was highly informative and these are my huge takeways among others from this article. “These changes open doors—but they don’t change the core brand. Diversity here works inside the formula, not as a rebellion against it.When you write a Black lead, her Blackness should feel lived-in—not commented on. “
What an eye opener, David! I wasn’t aware of the Canadian connection and the way it operates. Thanks!
I wrote a really fun Hallmarky/OWN – type Christmas script. This article is my sign to approach some production companies. 🙂
I admit I watch Countdown to Christmas both in July and October and recently have started watching them as a writer. So this is incredibly helpful information, as one of my goals is to create a holiday film.
