This was a great reminder on how important it is to know the basics of screenwriting and how to ensure the proper grammar to enhance the script and doesn’t take away. This was an informative read. Thank you.
Pure gold. This creates readability in a script and enjoyable visceral read for the person on the other side enjoying the screenplay.
Well-said, David, and especially this part: These aren’t mistakes — they’re stylized choices. Use them for pacing. For tension. For poetry. Just don’t overdo it. If every line is a fragment, nothing lands.
Also, when I read produced scripts, I look for interesting verb choices and add it to my verb list. When I’m looking for a fresh verb choice, I just turn to my list. Additionally, a thesaurus is a must have resource. It helps a lot.
Great article. A must read for everyone.
