This episode was a fantastic introduction to the OBS podcast
I definitely have trouble with goal setting
So interested in so many things
Have to focus to narrow it down
There was so much I didn’t know, but after listening to this, I am so much more prepared.
Did not know that managers can produce work
Did not know that agents are regulated by the state
Thank you for the in-depth and day to day insight
Good to know that you can reach out to managers
I agree professonial business email is best
I appreciate the insight on have a clear, focused and confused query
I’ve had one experience reading a query and it was all over the place. I didn’t understand what a query was based on reading it
It’s good to know that one solid screenplay plus 4 scripts is good to have
Thanks for the tips on the best day to send and holidays.
Tuesday morning
Dont query holidays
Jewish holiday
Clear understanding of personal brand
Building relationship with writer and manager
I appreciate this so much, as I said before my knowledge account is so filled. Communication and knowing your true, authentic self as a writer is so vital and crucial to making it in the entertainment industry.
I listened to the second episode already. I look forward to the next one!
Thanks again for your time and efforts.
*having a clear and focused query
Also wanted to comment on the deconstruction of the tiers of representation. I appreciate the detailed information that was provided on that. It’s helpful on my end to know that I can start off with a manager instead of trying to reach out to agents or entertainment lawyers.
Thanks again!
Excellent and timely information! Among many great tips, I especially appreciated the advice on writing a concise query letter. Thanks!
Excellent info about the query process and the need to get a manager. It would be cool if there was a group like OBS for black managers. Even if there was a listing for those black managers who are open to new talent – that would be a blessing.
You may find a few black managers here. However, not all are literary managers and not every literary manager is on this list: https://www.diverserepresentation.com/managers
Also, I have to admit, some time ago I would put too much in my query letters. 🙂 The poor agent probably opened the email and saw my lengthy message and it was an immediate No! 🙂
I enjoyed this podcast. I could relate to the topic of finding the right manager and the importance of making sure you have the right chemistry with your manager. I made the mistake of signing up with a manager who focuses on managing actors, and they didn’t have too many writers on their roster. I love the statement, “Your best work is your network.” That is what I have been focusing on right now. I appreciate the helpful tips and guidance. So glad I listened to it. Very informative and I hope more people take time to listen to it as well.
This podcast is really good and very informative! Lots of great detailed information about working with managers, entertainment attorneys and agents. So many golden nuggets of wisdom! Great job, Sasha and TJ! Looking forward to your next episode!
