  • There’s just so much to touch on with this, I don’t really know where to begin. I loved to read as a kid and even now as an adult and wanted to experience the adrenaline I felt when reading a book in a story that I wrote. I definitely found pleasure in making up stories when I played with toys, simulation video games and when I received my first journal. I really felt like storytelling helped with me feeling as if my voice didn’t matter. The stories I made up really helped me to understand my likes and dislikes as I navigated through life.

I never idolized normalcy, always wanted to be different from others; most girls liked the color pink, I chose gold, just because I didn’t want to like what everyone else did. I agree that the passion of Hollywood when it comes to storytelling is attractive and I felt that for the most part the same stories were told about black people except a few films and tv shows. Those films and series that gave a broader perspective of black people were often low-balled in comparison to this that were more stereotypical.

I also always think about the financing aspects of producing a film or series. It’s rare to have Black investors, but I will stay positive that will change and everyone can come together.

There’s so much more to touch on, but thanks for this article it was great!
