Thank you for this .
There’s just so much to touch on with this, I don’t really know where to begin. I loved to read as a kid and even now as an adult and wanted to experience the adrenaline I felt when reading a book in a story that I wrote. I definitely found pleasure in making up stories when I played with toys, simulation video games and when I received my first journal. I really felt like storytelling helped with me feeling as if my voice didn’t matter. The stories I made up really helped me to understand my likes and dislikes as I navigated through life.
I never idolized normalcy, always wanted to be different from others; most girls liked the color pink, I chose gold, just because I didn’t want to like what everyone else did. I agree that the passion of Hollywood when it comes to storytelling is attractive and I felt that for the most part the same stories were told about black people except a few films and tv shows. Those films and series that gave a broader perspective of black people were often low-balled in comparison to this that were more stereotypical.
I also always think about the financing aspects of producing a film or series. It’s rare to have Black investors, but I will stay positive that will change and everyone can come together.
There’s so much more to touch on, but thanks for this article it was great!
Thanks so much for this!
