The Organization of Black Screenwriters Writers Group (OBS WG) is the support entity of the Organization of Black Screenwriters that meets bi-monthly to review, critique, and provide input for the advancement of marketing, producing, and/or sales of OBS Writers’ Group members’ literary works and projects.  Each OBS WG member is given an opportunity to complete their projects by introducing their work to a structured test market group of diverse and aspiring writers, producers, directors, & filmmakers.  Each member will gain vital insight and experience needed to successfully complete his or her project.

The mission of OBS WG is to support, motivate, and encourage the successful completion of group members’ projects by providing project review, written and oral critiques, and editing assistance.  In so doing, each member will gain experience as a reader, screener, story analyst, editor, and critic of numerous works set to be submitted in a formal pitch.  This multifaceted approach to reviewing gives each member the opportunity to increase the value of their writer’s biography.  The OBS WG is committed to providing an environment for nurturing each writer’s individual talent by fostering beneficial and professional relationships amongst its members, in addition to, coordinating various events to promote, market, and sell member projects.

The OBS WG is a team of deadline driven, semi-professional readers/screeners, critics, and editors of various types of projects to be submitted for completion, production, and/or sell.  Successful completion of scripts through the writer’s groups leads you to Dramatic Reads and finally to Script Development.

OBS is creating a Script Library. Members in good standing will be able to borrow film and television scripts to read and analyze, or simply enjoy. The location and borrowing guidelines are still being finalized, but you can help make the library a reality by donating any of the following types of scripts:

  • Scripts of feature films that have had theatrical release within the last 10 years.

  • Longform television scripts (i.e., movies for TV such as "Boycott" or "10,000 Black Men Named George") that premiered within the last five years.

  • One-hour and half-hour TV scripts of shows that are currently on the air (i.e., "Arrested Development," yes; "Sex and the City," no).

  • TV pilot scripts bought/ordered by networks within the last year.

Please bring any scripts you're willing to donate to the next OBS meeting. A list of all the scripts in the library will be published on the OBS website, along with instructions on how to check scripts out. (Also, please note that due to copyright considerations, there are no plans to make the scripts available in a digital format.)
